Okay. So here is the last of 7 finished illustrations for my Senior Project from MCAD, aka my novel in progress.

Here we go.

This illustration took a lot of courage for me to post, for a few different reasons. As always, my backgrounds are kinda weird and rushed, and it features a very unusual sort of composition, and also includes my female main character, Adelaide, and her brother, Ulrich. OH MY GOD HUMANS! :omg:
I finished this illustration last. I was working on probably an hour of sleep per every 30 some hours awake. The semester nearly killed me and I was having stabbing headaches and random muscle spasms. I also was working two part time jobs, and my friends were dealing with some tough school issues... ok, I won't go into any more details, don't pity me, I put myself into this situation and I took care of it. :XD:

In this scene, Adelaide has already discovered Nharath wounded, and despite all fear, feels a compassion for the giant, fearsome beast. She runs to get her brother, Ulrich (background) to help her move him to a safer location. He fears the worst and worries about what his sister has gotten into this time, but never does he expect it to involve a pallanoph!

I tried to make this composition "genius", by allowing us to feel the same way as Ulrich (and Adelaide) does, by allowing the viewer to first wonder, what is Adelaide pointing at, looking at? Is that an arrow? What is it stuck in- OH MY GOD! A pallanoph!? Yep, that's right, Nharath is lying unconscious at the bottom of the frame, lying in a hollow filled with leaves just beyond a large tree, almost out of sight. Tell me, did I pull this off? Granted, it's almost impossible to go back into this piece, but in the future I tend to redo most of these painting, to update them, so to speak ;)

One more note. Some of the best pallanoph fur I have ever painted.

HAVE AT IT!!!! :D

HonestlyI love this one. Although I feel that there should be more in the background besides just white.... maybe more grey tones? and some more trees obscured by the grey. I like the humans, very nice. And like you said, thefur is Absolutley AMAZING, sooverall you did a greatjob!!!!!!

ZOMG Humans!!! This story just got more interesting!
The fur does look great :D. The humans, anatomy wise, are a little strange, but still good.
I think you pulled off the composition well; from the thumbnail I was like 'Hmm what is tha- Oh No! :noes:

I kinda like the white in the bg, on the contrary to someone else who posted a comment :) it makes their day seem bleek and gray, which fits the emotion of this piece quite well. I also think it helps drawing attention to the wounded/dead animal.

In your description you talk about what you want us the viewer to wonder, and I think you executed that idea very well, from the eyes of Adelaides brother who are still searching around, to the girl who has discovered the pallanoph and turns on her toes. You captured their emotions and movement well. She is like reaching for the creature and asking her brother to join at the same time. kudos.

yes indeed, such a furry beast! I just love that fur. And awesome perspective. I really like the washed out background. The only thing I can point out is that Adelaide's hands just look a bit funny, despite the perspective itself. But a beautiful piece none the less! Is this going to be a published novel? If so, I'm certainly hoping to get my hands on a copy.

Without Tim Burton, the world would be a bit more dull

Lord of the Rings WAY over Star Wars any day.

If you want someone to talk to, come say hi! :D

:D :D Glad to hear that it works for you! And as far as human anatomy is concerned, I think I'll be at it for several more years before I learn properly. I just gotta practice, practice, practice!

Thank you very much!

I really like how you do backgrounds. =) I don’t think every drawing necessarily needs to have a super detailed background, just enough to put the characters in context to their environment. I usually don’t bother with them because I hate drawing them. :XD:
