I don't have too much to say on this one: It's a relatively old piece that I came across recently, and I couldn't avoid messing with it a little bit more.
The original drawing was done with a brush pen, so it's partly traditional, but the rest was done digitally using textures gathered from CG Textures. I'm far from proficient with digital media and things take ages for me to figure out, but that doesn't stop me from poking around with it now and again.
This portrait is not terribly accurate at portraying Sorstan's character, but I imagine it is how the other characters see him. Also, a few of you have mentioned the resemblance between pallanophs and fu dogs, which I love, so that was some of the inspiration for this. I like doing slightly stylized works now and again...
If you have any suggestions/questions/critiques on this sort of thing, I'd like to hear it. You may be surprised, but I'm not actually here for the ass-kissing.
I love the slightly stylised, Oriental look! However, he looks like he's lunging through a stain in the wall, an image I fear is going to give me nightmares.
In a sense.... yes. I can't help but get a little miffed when people take my personal works to use for such purposes, though I keep the sentiments to myself. I wouldn't mind if it was something more generic, but people rarely have interest in those!
Just have to say, the colors are so well balanced and beautifully executed in this. Not that it surprises me, of course, you seem to have a natural eye for color harmony.
As long as they are neutral colors, I can manage alright. Anything vibrant, and I have no idea what's going on. (Then again, it's been years since I've tried.)
Heh, vibrant colors… they *can* work well, but… yeah… you need to be good at it (ie, lots and lots of practice), and even still, I think there's a popular style right now for improperly used bright colors.
Improperly used, clashy colors are more in than I would care to admit right now. Blegh! That was something I'll confess to having done a lot when I was 7-10 years old, though.
I think neutrals will always have a classical sort of charm, hopefully.
And I agree. It reminds me of a doorknocker. ^^
and it looks amazing; I love the shapes
Thank you.
looks like Barong from Bali!
And thanks very much!
My pleasure!
