EDIT

Well! I think that about does it. I am thinking this will be it for this little painting, it's probably best that I move on. I've changed the muzzle, (made it larger/adjusted perspective as best I could) re-centered the star on his forehead, added more blue to the shadows (trust me on this, they're there even though they don't show up... crappy camera ) added his ear (nearly invisible, but it's there) and adjusted the neck some more, as well as smoothed it out and finished (mostly) the mane. What a pain! But I think it was worth it.

In other news, my wrist is feeling much better now, about 80%. :w00t: Thank goodness for braces!

--------------------------------------------------------------
:phew: Much harder to do when the wrist of your drawing hand has been injured. How irritating!

So this is the next in the series, a spirited little Haflinger. And that's right, it's a WIP shot (albeit a good ways into the painting) so that means I'm requesting your critique and feedback.

A few notes first: His mane is not finished, and also the star on his forehead as well as his nostrils are off center/twisted and not aligned with the perspective. These I will fix! Still trying to work out the background... clearly, it's sunny. Right?

Chestnut/palomino is much easier to paint than black. Naturally.

Let me know what else needs a'fixin'! :D

The movement and composition are astounding, the negative spaces you've created are beautifully embracing and flowing and the main breaks everything up with so much energy and interest. I love it! I've read about what you mentioned, that the main is unfinished and I think that's what makes it slightly unclear that the weather is "sunny", it could just be that the photograph needed sunlight ( I don't know), but I can tell you that the whites will stand out if the darks are darker, and you can make the blacks have more depth by adding color to them, for example adding red to your black will make it appear darker then regular black, adding green will make it seem a bit closer, you can also use this to warm and cool black areas. There could be an amazing play between orange and blue (overall) when this is finished if you flow a bit of blue shadows into the main to collide with orange highlights from the reddish brown body. And of course it will seem sunnier by using bright highlights in the hair, but the whitest white in the end, you will probably want on that star otherwise the hair could be become overpowering and distracting rather then complementing the overall composition. It would also be nice to see some subtle reflected light, I know the highlights are not in yet, but the shadow from the head gives some hint of where the sunlight is coming from, reflected light often makes things more real then even photographs without it do, it gives things more dimension, and can also be used to bring out the beauty of colors by complementing the main color used in the highlights.

Now I need to go and paint! This is beautiful work!

I wish I knew more about horses so I could help you out, but I can say that the nostrils and ears look very small to me. But I am not often around horses so I dunno XDD

The composition you have created is beautiful though. The compliments in the picture really make it pop. Very beautiful painting

Ok, I always have problems when it comes to horses' anatomy, I just can't see if there's something wrong.^^' I'm waiting to see it finished, right now it looks really good to me. You have hand for drawing horses (in my small opinion):D

The flames and smoke climbed out of every window
And disappeared with everything that you held dear
And you shed not a single tear for the things that you didn't need
