*clears throat a few times*

Here we go! :iconflowerdanceplz:

This is a rather poor capture of this [link] revised and tweaked and tentatively "finished." I feel that it has certainly come a long ways, and now I am waiting to see what I should polish. Usually at this point in a painting I walk away to think about it, and come back to it later so I can properly see the work for what it is. It can make a great deal of difference. It probably needs more highlights (the photo is a bit lighter than the actual painting in places, due to the reflective nature of acrylics). Though it is getting to the point that I won't be able to adjust much more.

Already I've played with the highlights, deepening the shadows (thank you, ultramarine blue! ) and also adjusted the structure of the face, particularly the muzzle, to make it more accurate as far as a depiction of the breed is concerned. It's at least closer than it was, at any rate.

So I guess now I am asking you whether or not I have made this happen. It's been a real challenge, one which I am glad to have faced with all the determination that I had. But I've been working on this for long enough, and will only spend a few more hours on it at the very most.

(Oh my goodness, I hate having to paint my name so small, why does my last name have to have 10 letters?!?)

That said, let me know what you think of this. Critiques and comments are all very welcome. :)

Critiques

This turned out beautifully! I see so much improvement from the WIP that you posted. Your time and effort was well spent and worth it.

As far as critique, I don't see much. You improved the color, widened the nose, and got the lighting just right. Although looking at the nose more, it might be a tiny bit too small still, but not by much at all, and it's hardly noticeable.

Other than that, I don't see anything else to critique. The mane is simply gorgeous, very flowy and detailed. The background is colorful, yet simple, and it doesn't detract from the detail or beauty of the horse at all, while adding a finished look to the piece.

This turned out so wonderfully, you should be very proud of it!

Wow! I get first comment!

I think its lovely. Looks great to me, and can't think of anything to critique, so I can't help there.

Sorry I'm not much help at all, but its a lovely pic!

Hi April,

The lighting on the face looks more natural now.
That thing you mentioned about walking away so that later you can see it with a fresh eye is one of the secrets of the trade and works wonders.

This is really beautiful! The mane particularly looks perfect. You really did a great job in bringing the subject to life even though it's colors are so dark. I am instantly struck with a feeling of, well, majesty when I look at it. lol. Great work!!

:phew: Thank goodness! For a while there, I wasn't sure I was going to make it... and thanks for your help, too!
:iconpallanoph:
I used a more indirect lighting for this one, so the brown-ness wasn't so bad. So glad to hear you approve! :D :glomp:

Thank you very much! :aww:

Yes, it has worked wonders for me. Many of my pieces have been redeemed so to speak just by walking away for a while and then coming back to it!

Thank you all the same! :D
