Blade by pallanoph Blade by pallanoph
If I had my way, I wouldn't be submitting a bit of colored work/work with backgrounds until I had to. The rest of you can paint all you'd like, and throw color every which way, but I have to admit my only real strength (if you can even call it that) lies in lines. </ramble>

Here we have a line art commission for ~ElementalSpirits of her Deron character, Blade. She asked that he be drawn a little less canine in terms of his anatomy, and I'm beginning to wonder if I pulled that off, which is surprising, since I have such a hard time drawing canines correctly. ._. He's far more interesting than your ordinary woof, methinks. :D Besides, he can harness the power of lightning! (Yes, it's meant to be ball lightning.) That aspect may have been a bit tough, but regardless, I really enjoyed drawing him. :la:

Dip pen (108 Hunt nib) with Speedball India ink (the best!) on bristol vellum, 11x14".

I swear, if I get bombed with commission requests for ridiculous emo woof critters and/or sparkledogs of the sort that plague dA, I will run back into my dark corner with nary a word. Eeks!

(Of course, this isn't directed at anyone who has commissioned me thus far. Thanks to all of YOU for everything. Really!)

Blade the Deron belongs to ~ElementalSpirits

Lineart can definitely be the most important part of a piece. This is beautiful, some of the best line work I've ever seen! <3

Beautiful! Just beautiful!:boogie::dance: =D :glomp:
I am loving all of the little details you've added. His muscle structure, the fur, his little crystal... all of it looks perfect to me. I'm particularly in love with his face, it's so smooth looking that I want to stroke it. :XD: And I just love the way you have drawn his ears and his mouth. The realism and the softness to his jaw is just how I imagine it in my mind. =D His expression is also fantastic, I wish I could draw such realistic expressions (Mine are always too anthropomorphic I think). :XD: And I like also that you've made it look like his attack is perhaps not the most comfortable thing to do. It shouldn't look easy I think, as it's an incredibly draining thing to do (and may well hurt a bit ;)). =D
I know he's maybe not as urm.. un-canine? as I perhaps imagined he would turn out, but honestly, he's so perfect, that I really don't care. I thought that making him less canine would be easier on you, but it seems that not trying to draw canines is the best way for you to draw them. :XD: And I really like how you have drawn the ball lighting, I can imagine how hard to draw that in just ink must be, but you've done an excellent job on it. =D
I don't think I can fault you on anything! =D  I've been waiting weeks for this to turn up in my inbox, and it was completely worth the wait! =D

Thank you so much for drawing this, it's really made my week! =D   :glomp:

Once I had that pose drawn (and I really wanted to show something different for him) I realized just how ill fitting it was in terms of showing his "not quite canine" anatomy. Of course, I hoped I could adjust things while inking, but it didn't quite happen as well as I'd liked. It seems like the truth: the minute I want to make something NOT look like a dog, it becomes a dog.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy it! :aww:

Awesome! I really like the tendrils (correct descriptive term?) coming from the ball of lightening, the sharp edges really capture its aggressive power.

"I have such a hard time drawing canines correctly. ._." ... really, April? Yeah right.

For me, lightning seems easier than drawing tree branches, since lightning seems to follow a less rigid pattern. I'm just glad it actually looks like lightning to people.

Haha! But I hardly ever draw canines (unless commissioned) so that's part of the reason I say that. :XD:

;p Even my professors've said that trees and shrubbery are probably the most difficult things to draw. Lightening is definitely much simpler (and often cooler looking).
Ah. Well, he turned out well.

( :meditation: still waiting on your note! )
