Citrus Kirin by pallanoph Citrus Kirin by pallanoph
The dark of winter is hard on me, like it is for many folks, but at least my favorite citrus fruit is now in season!

This piece has been sold! Stay tuned for similar works featuring brightly colored kirin, all of which will be available for purchase.

Caran d'Ache colored pencil on toned Strathmore paper, 7 x 9" (17.78 x 22.86 cm). I will be offering commission slots like this (colored pencil, simple flat color/monochromatic/accent color) in the future, now that my last four commissions are on the block. More details to come!

I adore warm orange palletes and kirin/ki-lins in general - this is very beautiful.  I like how you stylized the forelimbs and tusks without making it look anatomically incorrect.

Thanks very much! I have a hard time letting go of my obsession with sensible anatomy, so I'm glad it works here. :)

Thanks! I don't usually get to use a full fledged orange, I usually go for something more rusty. :)

He's in the process of being sold, but it's likely I will continue this theme with more kirin-like creatures in the future. They're a great way to unwind! :)

(Thanks for your interest, I wasn't sure if people would like shiny orange kirins on their wall! :giggle:)

And now, when I get enough space/funding for my next goldfish setup, all goldfish will be named after varieties of citrus. :giggle:

I used to have two young ones, but the tank was only 20 gallons with a ton of filtration on it. Not nearly enough, but I was naive. :noes:

In the future, if I acquire stable income again, it'll be a massive tank, I don't want anything less than 50 gallons. But I think I'll need to brace the floor in this house to prevent catastrophe, lol!

Oh yes, I love fish quite a bit! They are the best pets. :giggle:

50 gallons would be definitely better than 20! will be easier to maintain the water quality.
(i dont have an aquarium, but wanted one once and read a lot about it. have not enough time and i guess that my will to clean and care for the fish will fade after a few months xD)

oh yes...the weight can be a critical issue, guess you need to ask somebody about the strenght of the floor. to prevent catastrophe :)

so i wish you good luck and money for your goldfishproject :)

Oh definitely! I didn't quite grasp the concept until after I started doing tons of maintenance for a small tank. My poor back, my poor fish! Next time will be different. Between a large tank and multiple filters (including a canister filter, I hope!) I'll do better.

I feel like needing to take care of my aquarium plants and fish (currently a giant betta and two ottocinclus catfish) keeps me more motivated, or at least I've been better at keeping on top of things this year. But yeah! When you've got a setup that isn't quite right, it's a huge task to keep on top of it. D: It's definitely not a hobby for everyone!

Thanks! :aww:

When I was a kid, something about orange offended me, especially orange crayola markers (...the hell?) I've obviously retracted my dislike in the last couple of decades: orange IS one of the best colors. :D

ahha, that's ok!  I thought I was the samw way, but then I realized all the colors can be made beautiful.  Even vomit green is used in the lily pads and rush grasses for a pond! :D

I've found myself drooling over mucky greens and muddy neutrals more and more these days: they're the most useful colors for me! With paint, it's easier to mix my own mud from brighter colors, but with colored pencils, etc. the process is a bit more time consuming.

I just bought a couple of lurid pukey green colored pencils this weekend, actually. I love them.
