Custom Aequis: Flamingo

A fantastically pink wetlander type Aequis based on a flamingo for Pitch-Black-Cobra! It occurred to me just now that I've not shown any wetlander type concepts outside of my tumblr. Well, ta-da!

Yet another Aequis type to have seasonal breeding plumage, the long plumes growing off the secondaries on the wings and the two tail "flags" are shed during non-breeding season. However, those long specialized plumes on either side of the neck are permanent and are often used as lures when fishing for prey. Wetlanders have less rotational mobility in their lower limbs as a result of specialization featuring exaggerated length, but their very long and mobile necks seem to make up for it just fine. Their feet are also more broad and spreading, with the outer toe touching the ground and ending in a more compact nail as opposed to the typical "double dewclaw" sported by most other types. This allows them to better walk around in those squishy homes of theirs.

Materials: Winsor and Newton watercolors, Caran d'Ache Supracolor watercolor pencils, gouache, white gel pen on Fabriano Artistico 140 lb watercolor paper, hot press finish. Lettering was done using a Nikko comic nib and Daler Rowney FW sepia acrylic ink. Approx 11 x 14 inches, 27.94 x 35.56 cm.
