Artist's Comments

"Oh no, not another of April's pointless WIPs," is what SOME of you might think upon seeing this. But I must correct you, as the title here quite clearly states FINAL!!!!

*announcer voice* And now the moment you've all been waiting for...

I present, "Flight Response," the finished (at long last) whitetail commission done for a friend back home in Iowa. I do hope he likes it! And that he still remembers it! :giggle:

That's right, I can't do any more with it. I must move on. I've taken your suggestions and comments to heart and must say that you've provided me with some incredible feedback, together with my friends offline, I believe I've managed to pull it off. Couldn't have done it without you! :)

So I've tweaked and adjusted the shadows on the tree, popped out the bushes in the background, added hints at more trees, finished the base of the tail, tweaked the antlers to make the tips lighter, fixed the breath cloud up some, and just did some overall smoothing and fixing.

And the picture was taken with a proper digital camera, isn't that something? Now I can move all of those old pieces of crap into my scraps so they won't clutter up my gallery. We wouldn't want that, would we?

Straight up watercolors on Fabriano Artistico 140 lb hot press watercolor paper (the stuff of gods!)
(plus traces of sweat, blood, and tears, of course  )

Let me know what you all think! (even though I highly doubt I'll be touching it again! :XD: )

Art is (C) to me, April Schumacher (pallanoph)
Please do NOT use this work, especially since it is a commission.

(long comment is long... huge file is huuuuge)
(April uses paragraphs, do you?)

Aww, thanks! Deer anatomy is incredibly difficult as I recently remembered; I had to do a literal crash course on their anatomy from the mass of diverse images I found on google... ^^;

I LOVE traditional media. I just like working with actual things, it's a lot more direct for me than digital, which I am still trying to learn... I've spent my entire life working traditionally, so it might take me a bit longer!

(I laughed at this current sig of yours as well as the last one.... :XD: )
:iconmuffinonie:
I think I have one attempt at a deer in my gallery somewhere. Needless to say I never tried that again XD

But yeah. I took an art class at college this last quarter. I enjoyed the traditional media.
I'm trying to get into an advanced drawing class this quarter which focuses on portaits and other human anatomy (like hands and feet)
Keeping my fingers crossed, hoping it won't fill up D:

But haha, yeahh. I love me some Salad Fingers Cx

I think it's really very beautiful. Well done

:giggle: They can be VERY frustrating!

That sounds like a wonderful class... I hope you get in alright! (I'm constantly relearning hands and feet... feet are particularly hard. Considering that people are always wearing shoes and you can't look at your own to get the proper angle... :XD:

(the bug-eyed kid creeped me out, but in a good way!)
:iconmuffinonie:
I stick to canines
Which kinda frustrates me a bit :/
I feel like I should expand my artistic abilities way beyond just.. Fluffy cartoony dogs..

But yeah. I've always struggled with human (who hasn't?) so I'm hoping that class will prove to be as helpful as it sounds.

And yeah... It's basically all kinda creepy XD

Oh wow! It turned out amazing! I wish I could see it in real life, all that detailing must look great. It's wonderful to see this (finally ;) ) finished :)
