Tattoo commission for ~TragicCharade, who asked for a kirin. :) I'm rather surprised that a fair amount of people have asked for me to design tattoos for them, honestly: I've not quite figured out how my art can be considered applicable, and I will say it's a little tricky to come up with a piece that will work as a tattoo. (Texture, line weight, even color are important!) But I have to say the design process for this went quite well. And it was fun!

Watercolor and ink on 140 lb Arches hot press watercolor paper. Mmmmm. (The clouds are more of a rosy grey than pink in the original, but ah well... :XD:)

Questions, critiques, etc. are welcome as always.

Oh, and a disclaimer: I would rather you not use this design for your own tattoo, as it was made specifically for the commissioner. Also, there are plenty of very capable tattoo artists out there that would be more than happy to design you your very own original tattoo. Thanks for understanding! :)

I saw the logo of Kirin Beer and searched all over the internet today, just for looking for the incredible animal, so I'm very suprised to find this beautiful picture of the animal, you did more than just a good job on this one, I assure you. I'm also searching for the kind of animals you draw, as I see them in your work, so: I really like what you're doing, inventing your own animals, I like it so much.

This is very impressing and I can see how it could work very well as a tattoo design. It actually looks kinda epic. I like the overall design, and the Kirin itself is very realistic. Your commissioner must have been very happy with the result (or else they have no taste).

I know I could design my own tattoo, but I think I would rather have you design one for me.

Sighs... I miss Illustration. :sniff:

I get so tied down with making eyes. Lovely work, as always.

Well, this end up looking pretty friggin' awesome! The little things really make this picture; the tree roots, clouds and the scales. Pure greatness, April <3
I think your style fits into larger, "artsy" tattoos :) My friend has a phoenix starting from her shoulder and going down through her back into her thigh and your style would fit such tattoo well.

D'aww, why thankies!

I can't imagine doing any work simpler and/or smaller, hehe, so it's just as well I do work for larger pieces.

Oh, this is excellent. I love all the small details in the bark and scales. The asymmetrical composition really adds to the sense of movement in the piece, too. They will have a Kirin charging down their... do you know where they plan on putting it?

A lot of people trawl the internet, especially DA, for tattoo ideas. I did one little sketch once years ago, labelled it a tattoo, and the requests have never stopped coming in. The disclaimer's a good idea, I should probably go back and slap one of those on... *lacking in the common sense*

I do believe she'll be getting this tattooed on her side... that sounds awfully painful, doesn't it? I could never do it. :noes:

People are awful about scrounging for tattoos on here. It's incredibly annoying, but I hate to sound like an arrogant jerk. *sigh* Now I put disclaimers on everything, augh. (Maybe, just maybe, it helps!) :D

Wow. That does sound intense. o.o Best of luck to her! I hear that over bones is the hardest part... *wants tattoo but is always broke*

Yar. :\ And t-shirt images, and band posters... I really wish DA would give us more protections against it than just that ugly watermark of their. Like, if someone right-clicks make a copyright notice pop up instead of download options? Even images with 'download' off are downloadable on here.
Not that that would necessarily stop the really determined thief who knows how to screen-capture, but it could help...
