Moranthos by pallanoph Moranthos by pallanoph
An extremely long overdue piece for ~SaralynRenu, who caught my kiriban I don't know how long ago. It's always these sorts of things that get put on the back burner when I take on commissions... :ashamed: Eeks!

Here is her character, Moranthos. :) I'd debated for a long time on how to portray him, and then settled with a relatively simple bust. To make up for that, I went with more detailed color. And woohoo, painting blue fluff! Surprisingly satisfying. :XD: Overall, he was a very interesting critter to draw, even if this is only part of him.

To ~SaralynRenu: I hope he looks alright, and I apologize for putting it off for so long. :noes:

Watercolor and touches of gouache on cold pressed watercolor paper, 100 lb.

Character ~SaralynRenu

You have absolutely nothing to apologize for, dear. With such an... 'awe' inspiring piece such as this, the amount of time until it's completion is fully pardoned, ha ha.

He is absolutely stunning! Never have I seen such a majestic portrayal of my lovely Moranthos. The texture of the fur and the proud pose of his feathers make him even more handsome. And his face! Perfect!

Thank you so much for this sweetheart! I love it more than words can describe!

I swear I seem to draw nothing but fluffy... :la: Makes me want to paint my goldfish, just for a change of pace. Or, get back to drawing people. Even if people do have hair...

Sorry for the silly question.. but what exactly is gouache? And how do you work with it?

Excellent work by the way :))

That's not really a silly question, because to my knowledge, gouache isn't very popular. :giggle: It's also known as opaque watercolor, and dries with a matte finish. I use it with just a bit of water: more water means less opacity. One has to use a very light hand when layering with it, as a new layer can disturb the layer underneath: it reconstitutes when re-wetted. It takes a little getting used to, but I thoroughly enjoy it. :)

I know I still have no idea to draw a human face at that angle. Actually, there are probably two or three things I can draw from this angle, and that's pretty hit and miss. :XD: So thanks! :D
