Mountain Air by pallanoph Mountain Air by pallanoph
Probably the closest I'll ever get to drawing anything that could be construed as Valentine's Day sentiment. Eww! :XD: Though to be honest, I'd started this sketch months ago, so there. =p

Here we have a Dolun pair, enjoying a pleasant day in the mountains. I really like drawing these critters, even if I rarely get around to it. They lend themselves towards a different sort of cute, I think, and every once in a while, I decide to express a more fuzzy sentiment than I usually would.

She thinks, "He does make an excellent windbreaker." :giggle:

(Oh, and if one is confused by her forelock area, part of it is his windblown beard. Yeah, it's awkward.)

Graphite tinted in photoshop, fullsize is actual size.

Great drawing! I love these lil' Doluns! Hmm, they remind me of goats...just a question, are these cute critters at all related to goats, sheep, or deer? Or like phallanophs are they their own thing? I know you probably get tired of questions like these (I see enough people annoying you with those "phallanophs r leik wolves zomg!11!")

:iconspiralsmileplz: They're so adorable! Nice detailing with all those little lines and crosshatchings. I love the spikes and curls in the males horns.

 D'awwww... It is good to hear that even my selfish doodles can find someone else to love them. :giggle: It makes them seem so much more worthwhile. :)

They exist in the same world as pallanophs, and despite their wits, can still end up as a meal for larger pallanoph types. But, such is nature.... I wanted to give pallanophs a prey animal that would give them a run for their money! :D Glad you like them!

I really like the face style on these critters. They don't read "goat" so much; there's that lean, carnivorous look to the muzzle that is very appealing. Their horns and ears are also fabulous. I like the way the male's horns have bone frills.

I don't recall precisely why I came up with this particular muzzle design, only that I sort of imagined them nosing through loose rock, most likely for roots. So this look sort of just... stuck. :XD:

Glad you like the bone frills... I only just recently decided to exaggerate them. :D

Ooooh I like his horn design. Are they spotted on their body? She seems to have spots on her shoulder there. Do they live in the same world as the pallanophs? Very interested in this species design. :)

There is a little bit of spotting on the body in some individuals, including these two. And after a lot of thinking, I've made the decision they do inhabit the same world as the pallanophs. Unfortunately, despite the quick wits of this species, they can end up as a meal for certain types of pallanophs. :noes:

I have more on the species here: [link] and [link] They have changed a bit since then, but these things happen. :XD:

Oh ho ho ho I love those hooves!! :D Really like the capriform shape of their body too. I find myself preferring the elegance of the females, with the naked neck as opposed to the male's ruff but the male's deep, backswept horns are gorgeous. :3
