Nharath and Adelaide by pallanoph Nharath and Adelaide by pallanoph
Ah, I am SOOOOO glad I adjusted the levels on this in Photoshop. Now it looks beautiful!
I loved painting this one... Adelaide turned out particularly well, with the glow on her face and hair. Nharath was fun also, fur in firelight can be tricky, but the results were well worth it. :)

Yet another illustration from my novel... here they are discussing matters. Nharath is amused by Adelaide, but clearly not wanting to show it. Adelaide, as always, looks defiant, as though thinking, "Say it, I dare you!" (They are inside a large tree, by the way)

Acrylic and watercolor on 140 lb hotpress....

Critiques and comments are very welcome indeed! :)

YAYY. NHARATH!
I hope, if this novel gets published (or even if not) you include these beautiful pieces! It would be like Abarat only much much more epic :D
Isn't Levels a miracle worker? Love love love levels. I don't think I have any critiques, this is just so so fabulous!

I LOVE LEVELS! Though I see DA still kinda killed the color... original is more orangey and more representative of firelight. But that's okay, it still looks pretty good.
And I really do hope to get it put together, and sent to publishers for consideration. Only problem is finding a publisher who would like to take on something this large! And it will probably take a few more years to get it properly put together...
But of course I'll keep you all posted on the illustrations as they come into being!
And thank you for being so interested in these fellas!

Ack, actually I think that would be photoshop D: Happens with my photography all the damn time. The reds and magentas get desaturated... I think it's something to do with color profiles?
I expect I'll be half way around the world, looking in a random book shop and see the cover art "OMG THAT'S APRIL'S BOOK!" hehe :D

Aw, of course! I want one of my own to cuddle with and take on walks :XD: It's the kind of creatre kids dream about running into when they run away from home into the forest :) Or... just dream about haha.

Awesome! I would really like to go to Europe at some point in time (somehow they seem a bit more likely to take on a project such as this... I mean, come on, how many good sized illustrated novels have you seen out there?)
But yes, I wish I had one too... and it is so true, because I originally come up with them when I was 6 or 7 years old! :D Wow, that was a long time ago....

oh wow! Makes sense though, kids always have such bright big imaginations. That's great that you've kept them with you for so long :D

I'm obsessed! :XD: Well, I work in layers (semi transparent) and build from dark to light, and having a slightly battered brush can work wonders for short fur. For long hair, I use a liner brush. Does that help? :D

That method works best for acrylic... for watercolor, I just build layers, starting out light, leaving the paper white where you want highlights... brushes with a thin, long tip work well for hair. Kinda the same with pencil, too!
