Description

Posting here again for those who don't follow my Tumblr.

Another study in subtle stylization, just to see if my current version of the pallanoph form holds up in a less than realistic approach. I think it does, just a little. They still need some work, especially on their feet. Their front toes are longer than they look, but I lack the skill to draw them as my mind sees them just yet. :XD:

Sorstan is employing a casual gesture of welcome, as though addressing a friend, or in his case, relative: His brother, Tjardek. Eventually I will get around to fleshing out pallanoph bodily communication and the implications of various gesturing. They do a lot of nonverbal communication with their face, notably eyebrows, mouth, and then ears. The tail plays almost no role in communication, unlike most earth mammals. The only exception to this is motioning with the tail tip in instances when speaking would give away position, etc. and even then it is subtle.

Lighting is hard. At least I can admit that. If you have critique on the lighting in particular, I would love to hear it.

Graphite drawing colored in Photoshop CS3.

I absolutely l o v e the subtle stylization, the lineshading brings a nice touch to this, more depth and a maybe a bit of sketchy feeling? But a very gooooddd sketchy <3 I also really love the hairs; around the head and on the chest, the backlit enviro just makes them pop that much more. This reminds me of like... a breed book illustration, you know? Like some explorer making drawings as they write down information and inspect their subjects, then later it gets done into a book with their images as part of it :)
