Werenoph by pallanoph Werenoph by pallanoph
So I found this the other day, in a scrap/sketch pile I'd forgotten on one of my shelves. I figured, it looked okay, despite the fight the fountain pen had given me. (Bad nib? Bad ink? I can't recall!) I figured I'd post it while we're waiting for me to throw out more commission work. (Getting things done while initiating the first steps of moving is trickier than I remembered, ha!)

So it's a were pallanoph, or a werenoph. Werenoph sounds better. I do hope I won't regret posting this, since I know that people are unwilling to read descriptions, or use their eyes, and thusly this poor beast will land himself in peoples' "woof and werewoofs" collections. Don't do that, he doesn't like the company.

I didn't accomplish much of interest in terms of the were-concept. Maybe his behavior is less frenzied and sporadic, and more cold and focused? Maybe he only comes out on eclipses? I did, however, want to add more of the human anatomy in, as I enjoy drawing human anatomy very much, but... I loathe drawing human heads most of the time, unless I have a good reference.

Aside from that, things you should know: Werenophs don't exist in the canon of my novel, so this is just fun and games. And for the record, werewolves don't exist either. Thought you should know!

Eeee! Fuzzy! :D

Ugh I know what you mean. When I see someone put one of my werewolf works in a 'furries' folder I want to start ripping off faces. 8|

This is fantastic though. I love the feet, claws, and teeth. The fur fluff looks fantastic too. I don't wanna say I pet it but I really do wanna pet it.

I like the concept very much but trying to picture him actually being able to walk on all fours? Eh I just can't see it I think it's a problem with how long the back legs are compared to the spine?

Oh no, he couldn't possibly move about on all fours in this state. I have yet to decide if he's bipedal only, or this is just some midway state of transformation. :)

Well, if nothing else if he ends up in with a bunch of wolves he'll have dinner for a while...

Wait, you're kidding about the werewolves thing, though, right? Cuz I swear that my first cousin's second uncle twice removed said that he saw one once after a long day drinking tequila and jag bombs.
Or maybe it was my second cousin twice removed.

:D Cool concept, though, maybe some day you'll get to do a story with werenophs!

Din din on! Poor pups.

Apparently there are people who genuinely believe they are one. Ummm.... Okaaaaay. :stare: Makes me a bit sad, and slightly worried for their mental health. But what do I know? :XD:

Maybe, but at the snail's pace the current novel is moving at, it'll be a miracle if I finish anything.

If you ever have the time, you should try out NaNoWriMo, that's the only way I managed to get my first one finished, even though it took over a year and a half to do.

But yeah, it's quite terrifying what people believe they are... I think there are more reincarnations of wolves on DA than real wolves in the world... I do sometimes fear for the future of society.

my god pallanoph you need to stop complaining about wolves already. You'll really regret posting artwork if what? someone favs it? And you just blatantly insult your fans here? You are really starting to sound arrogant.

It's more the fact that I wish people would take time to read descriptions. If people have questions, they should read. I get that I can't make people do anything, but I'll not be blamed for being mildy irritated by what people do. (I am human, after all.) I do not go to people's pages and whine at them there about any such issue, since it's their business and they'll do what they will, (which they are obviously allowed to do) but I will continue to post disclaimers here and descriptions when necessary. It is my gallery, after all.

I am not insulting my "fans." In any way. Most of the people confused on the issue are casual interlopers that have not followed me. I am blunt about things, including the fact that I have no interest in wolves. I think you'll find people to be far less pleasant than I am on the subject, to be honest.

I do not feel I am coming off as arrogant, but to each their own. You are perfectly free to feel as you wish, and I will not judge you one way or the other.

I'm sorry, but you sound rude yourself. She just can't seem to get it threw peoples heads that these are not wolves. There are way to many wolfaboos around who don't read descriptions on one piece, but will on another.

Its the same thing as another artist complaining because people think her character was a fan character of Lady In The Water, but the character was drawn way before that movie. It pisses them off to be accused of that.

On top of that, she can be arrogant if she wants. If you don't like it, unwatch.

I was hoping I didn't actually come off as arrogant. :noes: It's probably obvious I'm a bit miffed, and slightly tired of it, though I try to make my points with humor so as to soften the blow. It's possible that dA isn't quite the site for me, since I find myself being quite thoroughly tired of wolves after being here for nearly 4 years.

People like what they like, yes. I guess I just overload easily on things, and as a result, want nothing to do with them.

I should stop having feelings and I should stop being irritated! It's not like I'm a person or something. (Sorry for the sarcasm, just my lame attempt at lightening the mood...)

lol.

I completely understand the overload on canines. I ended up drawing some just so people would look at my art, decided I didn't like drawing them all that much, and put most of those images in storage.

I've been here...for..6 years now. But the trends seem to come and go. I remember for a while there it was all about horses. Then it was wolves, now it's My Little Pony.

Maybe try to find some groups to watch that are tailored to things you like to see in your inbox?

I won't draw them unless someone pays me a pretty penny. The only canines I have interest in drawing myself involve sighthounds and some herding breeds. Also, I'm not terribly skilled at drawing them in the first place, to be honest. I fear if too many people commission me for them (hopefully they'll see canines are not a strong point in my gallery) that canines will be all I'm known for. That is something I absolutely do not want! D:

I think wolves have always been a consistent presence, along with lions and dragons. The others I think fade in and out.

As far as people I watch, maybe two draw canines off and on. So I'm fine with the people and groups I watch, but when I want to go out and find new animal themed art in any of the galleries, all I see is wolves and the like. (And lions. :XD:) Which is why I stay in my little corner here.

Hehe, sounds like some subjects to me. Like horses, I can't do horses very well. Ponies just fine, but a realistic horse, not so much.

Your hounds are amazing though! Although everything you draw looks amazing in my eyes, so lifelike. But I can understand not wanting to be known as a wolf artist, you are a pallanoph artist.

True true. I see a lot of the Lion King type lions floating around.

Hey, staying in a little corner seems to work. But I completely agree. Hell, I was looking for a tutorial on how to draw an realistic eye the other day, I'd say 90% of what came up was for cats or wolves.

~SnapBanditWolf is correct, but if you want more, this is the place to go: [link]

I've had them since I was very young. They came from nothing I can discern, and are not intended to be related to any known species, though they've been made more plausible by research regarding a wide range of anatomy, including sighthounds, (specifically!) large felines, and hyenas, with hints of equine and near human anatomy.

I hope you don't truly think I was bothered by your question. :noes: If I sound annoyed in my descriptions (my irritation is also a good thing to make lame humor out of) it's because I like people to read. Obviously I can't control what they do, haha. But if they do, excellent!

In summary, don't worry about it. :)

They're a distinct large carnivore species, I don't think they're related to anything in real life. But you can see certain influences in the anatomy from things like horses and sighthounds. ^_^
