A holiday present commissioned by a friend for his mom.
The necessary elements were a deer, snow, and the color blue. I know I'm not terribly creative (especially not recently!) but I figured this should serve as a simple decorative painting.
I wanted to jump right in as opposed to spending days/weeks? planning out sketches. Which probably explains the oversights I made here: angle of antlers/head (believe me, you'll see it!) and the rather bland composition. I should have more color shifts in the trees, etc, but I think other than the obvious flaws, it turned out alright. (Hurrah! Color!)
This sort of work, especially when the subject is left open to my interpretation, is something I enjoy doing between sketches and larger projects. I hope she enjoys it as well!
Pyrography (woodburning) acrylics, and touches of sepia ink on a basswood panel. 8x10 inches (20 x 25.5 cm).
(Existing commissions will resume once I'm better settled. I'm going through a very rough patch right now with finances and transitions, so thank you for your continued support and patience.)
